Up with QR Codes and Down with UpCodes!

So this evening, I am browsing the web and I stumble upon a website promoting ‘UpCode‘ - At first I thought this was just a direct alternative for the (much talked about) QR Code. After some further browsing and reading on some other web sites… the UpCode appears to be a little more than a direct competitor.
I downloaded the UpCode specific application and installed it on my Nokia n95 a list of other supported devices is available (237 devices at the moment)! I then checked out the demo codes which were available and realised a few more advanced features were available than those with the standard QR code application I have used previously.
The UpCode application is free to download and install for mobile devices, the downside is - to create the codes you need a license (not so free)! However there are some nifty features available…
- Standard code translation.
- Direct call from code translation.
- Download business / contact card from translation.
- Download games / applications (online) from translation.
- Download video (online) from translation.
Giving a few more features than the standard QR Code reader (which is bundled with the Nokia n95) - Although more powerful than the QR Code I am unsure how it will take off… due to the cost involved with creating these codes - sit back and watch VHS vs Betamax (round 283)
