Nokia n95 Barcode Reader – the future

By andy | October 22, 2007

WOW, please mark these words….

The n95 Barcode reader is a very useful tool, it will soon be used for both transferring messages between Nokia n95 users and marketing.QR Code One

If you have a Nokia n95 and haven’t really checked out the barcode reader then you’re mad. It will read standard barcodes, and return numbers – cool! But is it really useful? What is useful is the ability to read QR Codes. These store much more data than our (UK) standard barcodes. They are generally used South Korea and Japan where people are more generally toward to forefront of technology. I have included one on this site, so below is a walkthrough on using the Nokia n95 barcode reader:

  1. Open the menu on the phone.
  2. Open the ‘office’ section of the menu.
  3. Select barcode reader.
  4. Open the camera and point at screen.
  5. Stabilise hand and focus on the QR code above.
  6. Hold for a second and read the message.

Impressed? I was, I really found this useful – so for the Nokia n95 readers of this blog…. I will be including more QR Codes around the site…. just for you guys! :-) But imagine the marketing potential… one code – not giving away too much, maybe just a URL – for the intrigued amongst us (most people) – it would be irresistible!

  1. Interesting! I don’t have that phone, reckon it’s something that might come as standard in the future, or just a gimmicky thing?

  2. I’d like to think it would become a standard – or at least an application which can be downloaded and used on other phones.

I do feel the marketing aspect would be potentially massive, we will see!
